Dr. Candace Carter serves as Chair of Social Work/Criminal Justice. Prior to joining 91ÇÑ×Ó in a full-time capacity, Spring 2024, she served as an adjunct instructor in Adult and Online Studies from 2016-2021. A licensed social worker, she possesses nearly 20 years of practice experience and over 10 years of experience in the academy. As a practitioner, Dr. Carter has worked in various capacities of child abuse and neglect, including front-line work, supervision, and evaluation. She has also worked with the elderly population, the ID-DD population, and in the mental health setting. Dr. Carter enjoys research and evaluation and most recently served as an external evaluator for a project, Delta Thrive in collaboration with Delta Health Systems. Additionally, Dr. Carter recently partnered with public institutions to secure funding through Title IV-E for scholarships and training of students who have an interest in a career in child welfare, specifically with Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS). In her spare time, Dr. Carter enjoys spending time with her husband, Robert and her daughter, Raelyn. She also enjoys retail therapy and traveling.
